I try to do a row a day, then pull fabric for teh next morning so I can backfill it. I take pictures at the end of the day so I haven't back-filled and packed yet.

After I backfill and pack it I pull the fabric back and set the boulders on top.

I will try to get a scan of my plan to show you how the fabric looks. There is a 1.5' layback on each row to lower the chances of a washout.

Thanks Kajun, I appreciate it! Glad I'm getting close to the end. It's a little overwhelming to start and build a wall this size by yourself.

From today:

Every time I look at your job photos I'm amazed at how straight the top of your walls turn out. Great work!

They are still sitting on site, haven't gotten them yet.

Talked to people at Chard, they were going to haul them off at the request of the developer. Usually how it works. A lot of the rocks were too big and would damage their boxes with the means of loading they had on site.

Most of the time they want them gone so future homeowners don't take them or ask the site supervisor to put them in their yard and make it into a pain in the butt for the sup.

Most are pulled out of farmers fields all over Minnesota basically for free because the rocks are a nuisance to the farmers and wreck their equipment and take up space where crops could go. Companies have to pick the rocks from the fields and deliver them. I would say 80% of my rocks come from the Brainerd area of MN. Price varies on how nice the rocks are and the size so there isn't exactly a single price we pay for them. The companies have to have good relationships with the farmers and don't just leave a mess for the farmers when they are done.

Some come from quarry's but they want upwards of $70/ton without delivery, and they usually stay at the quarry unless it's something very pretty or something like that.

Field boulders are the cheapest, but can also look great, stuff that has to be mined gets more expensive like quartz, granite, limestone and dresser trap rock are a few that are up around here.
