I think this was discussed at some point before, but I'm doing a water audit class next week and the workbook says wind speed ought to be below 5 mph when conducting an audit.

Are these Kestrels any good?

At 5mph you can hear leaves rustling in the trees.

At 10mph it will begin to slightly move leaves across grass.

The EPA WaterWise standard is 7 (or8?) MPH

Haven't had any problems with it even after dropping it a couple of times. Bluetooth software is spotty at best with Win7, however I have not checked recent versions to see if they fixed it. Changing batteries is a bit of a pain. Also, the unit is always on even when it is off ... found that out the hard way.

Yes

And why would I want one model over another?

Features mostly. The only unit that does wind speed and direction along with data logging and uploading to a computer is the 4500.
