What is the point of the side handle on the Stihl km90? I bought a used fs90 and its got a side handle and I don't know why it's on there.

It's for if you put a brush blade on it, so if it kicks back it will the handle will hit you and stop the kick back. I have a john deere split boom with it, and I believe that's what the manual says. Most of the time they are a pain
