I don't think the sprinklers are finished. There's at least 6 funny pipes sticking out of the ground. Pretty sure it's a vacant house

Whoever did this used a roll of telephone wire on a spool and then electrical taped it.

Took me 4 hours to move the controller and re-wire everything. Ran conduit as close as I could to the valves.
I like the fact that even though this is indoors and away from water they still used water resistant connectors.

This is at a display home of all places. I was supposed to give it a service, I just walked away after seeing it.

Yes, those are all rocks and get this, he's operating a FIMCO hydro indexing valve to boot.
Aligning the photos posted for easy viewing would be nice.

Actually, I've recommended irrigating hard surface for some water features before, not for the plants, but for supplementing water and promoting moss on the rocks. Although, those would not be rock gardens.

About the only other reason that comes to mind, would be if it was a play or recreation area and is was done for comfort in the summer heat.

Lots of clocks go in basements with water meters. Easy to confirm by sound that the zone has opened.

Around here, 95% or more are installed in the basement... add 2 or 3 % in the garage...

It's crazy how regions just see something and do it and that then there is the norm Here 95% of controllers are in garages
