Correct. $50/yr per user. If you are a current user, you're grandfathered.

I know that 50 dollars per year isn't much, especially considering how often I use google products, but is it really worth it just to get the alternate email address?

Or you could upgrade and have email via Yola? Either way, you have to pay for the ability to have email via your domain. The trappings of free plans.

Is it worth it to have your own domain email? Absolutely. To me, it comes down to a few things:
1.) You're not presenting your business as professionally as you can or should.
2.) You're not telling a customer, "Please visit my site at www.thecuttinghedge.ca and if you have any questions, feel free to email me at thecuttinghedge@freemail.com.". In today's world, it's implied that your email address is the same.
3.) Free email accounts get snagged in spam folders more than private domains.
