Tod Browning was a great filmmaker, influenced many cinema artists. I saw "Freaks" on acid at a movie house years and years ago.

I think the 'trippiest' movie I saw in recent years was the fully restored Umbrellas of Cherbourg, not because of the Michel Legrand music, or the gorgeous Catherine Deneuve, but because of the fantastically colored sets, which had dulled down over the years of faded negatives and indifferent print quality control.

If you want it nuts, see if you can find "Saragossa de Manuscript", a Polish film. I walked out of the theater completely spaced, to this day.
