For a diesel 72" Z - I have heard alot of good about the J.D. 997

For open area mowing and leaf cleanups with my trac vac system, my front mount J.D. f1445. - also 4 wheel drive.

They both have the yanmar 31hp diesel - excellent on fuel. It probably uses almost have the fuel of my 930A Z.

The Scag TT is a proven machine that does well. I don't think there is another mfg with a more proven design in the field.

Thanks for the comments guys, keep them coming.

Does anyone have an opinion on a cheaper 72" commercial mower? I know you get what you pay for, but there aren't many used for sale in my area; most are Exmark's with the Triton decks that I hear so many bad things about.

I have a 72" triton, well it used to be mine. My dad bought it from me. I'll be using it this summer since he bought a house in town. I never had any issues with it. In real tall grass it doesn't come close to my 7 iron decks. In normal to a tad above normal conditions its great. Cuts and stripes well.

So you would rather run your Exmark 72" triton deck, instead of a JD 797 72" 7 iron deck.

That would be tough. A 29 HP in the deere and a 35 in the exmark. If it were a 997 it would be easy. In tall grass give me the deere. Normal condition it would be a toss up.
