We use a Felker and it has a rubber plug in the pan. 2 guys can cut for 4-5 hours before changing the water. If I just had a garden hose ran to it with no pan I would be standing in a sloppy mess every time I made a cut. That is the reason we use a pump to recirculate water.

I take the pump out of the pan and put it in a 5 gal bucket of clean water. It's a little more effort, but it keeps the pump clean.

Does the pan drain to the bucket?

No. The tray has a surprisingly large capacity, and doesn't need to be emptied all that often.

And just keep a hose on trickle filling the bucket?
