With lawn mowing I'm not sure there is much that separates most. As in if you took the pool of people on here that do good work. What separates them from each other? Probably not much besides the fact one may have a more established business than the other. But I do agree with residentials you need to make them feel good about themselves. Also doing "differently" or "separating" yourself from the competition probably has nothing to do with the actual work involved. I'm not saying well laid stripes don't help win work but if they don't know who you or your business are then stripes aren't goin to land more business.

Business processes and customers feeling appreciated can go a long way to help getting good clients.

What am I doing to separate myself.......still trying to figure that out. But I don't think it will be the actual work, in a direct sense, that does that.

I'm not sure even if you had unlimited funds that the best customer service and the best quality out there you could make everybody happy with your company, there just seems to be so many people nowadays that absolutly nothing is going to be good enough for them, just sayin.

My customers tell me quality of service.
I tell myself the fact that I am fully licensed. So many unlicensed schmucks out there.

I'm an average white guy who dresses clean and neat. I'm solo, older than most, knowledgeable, polite, respectful, always return calls promptly and I take my time when I work. Oh, and one more thing I find useful, when talking to a client or prospect, take off your sunglasses, shake their hand and look them in the eye.

So very true. There are people that would be unhappy even if you only charged a dollar and did a perfect job. I generally think husbands of my generation (between gen X and gen Y)tend to not like us because they fully feel they are capable of doing the same job. Instead they do not do anything, the wife gets pissed so she hires someone, except the funds to pay the service are made by the husband. So they sit there pissed because the wife is spending his money to do a job he is perfectly capable of doing (in his head), but will not do because he doesn't "want" to. More often than not he would rather call in someone to cut down the field every six weeks, but she would never put up with that. The baby boomers on the other hand generally appreciate quality, and are willing to pay for proper service and thank you when it is all done.

Ha. Funny but very true..... But there are those young ones who would rather pay for it than do it. But what you're talking about is funny and I've experienced it first hand with some customers.
