I thinking it was the early 1990's because I was living in Boca Grande at the time. The point is we had the same type of hot winter as this year UNTIL late February and the 1st week of March. Every thing was in bloom when we had 3 hard freezes in a row. Boca Grande being on Gasprilla Island surrounded by warm water has a Micro climate more like Key West or Cuba. Instead of a zone 10 cold hardiness zone it is more like a zone 12 with a lot of tropical plants. The combination of 3 hard freezes in a row with warming in between really killed a ton of tropical plants and stunted even the most cold hardy plants that were blooming.

Monday I gave an estimate and got the job because the customer has grubs. fact is a large white grub crawled out of the turf on to the street right in front of us. First time ever and it Blew my mind to see a active grub in January. But the Gulf water temperature is still 70 degrees which meant the ground temperature is around 70 also. Grubs over wintering is controlled by ground temperature not hours of daylight like other plants and animals.

You got it Ric. I want the 75 degree year round average with the winters of 65/45....

I loved the SD weather. Not too hot, not too cold, low humidity. No real discenable change in seasons. Plants seemed to grow at steady rate regardless of time. SA never went brown, Bermuda even slowed but didn't go totally dormant. No hard freezes the years I was there.

I'm going out there Feb 6-11. Gonna spend 2 days or so with a realtor and see what it's gonna take to move out there. It is def a dream of mine.

Crazy expensive. I remember my Variable Housing Allowance was bigger than my base military pay.

Yea, I know. Southeast Florida isn't cheap either...nothing like SD, but it won't be sticker shock for me.

I was supposed to be headed up to Virginia this weekend, but I'm too busy to go. A lot of these yards looks too scraggly at two weeks. If not growth, leaves and debris.

They're having winter weather like we should be having. Any lawn guys up around the mid-Atlantic want to hire me for a year or so? I promise not to cut in on your area when I start my own

It seems like we only get 2 seasons here. Summer and Fall. We also don't get much rain, and it virtually never rains during the summer months. Just the way I like it.
