Google Adwords is one of the very best ways to do so. We all live in different areas, so our experience is different with what we must pay to get on the front page where we need to be. I live in a small city in Utah.
My average is 95 cents. The more used keywords up to $1.30.

Last year I was paying roughly a dollar or two a day. Which was a heck of a lot cheaper then direct mail and more calls and business. . I'm in the chicago burbs

I like the topic although I don't use adwords. Maybe I should start. I'm already on the front page (first in line actually). On average I get about 15 calls in the spring and five or ten more through the summer. I wonder how many more I might get and what the return on investment would be. I hope to see more feedback on this one.

We use ad words and have spent about 300 a month for a few months for hard scapes didn't see much return I live in a big city in ohio Cincinnati and or clicks are high any where from 1.75 to 3 I like to be aggressive after business hours you get a lot of home owners just getting in from work thinking about the yard so that worked good for us don't try and keep up with the big guys they can afford to lose money also have your site up and looking good that's what hurt us we are getting a new site as we speak think it will help my follow through rate a lot
