I wouldn't go that far...lots of guys used the ol get -it -wet philosopy and lots of landscapes survived by dumb luck...
Too much water is just as bad ...good drainage important generallyetc. You cannot have plants in standing water.
For best results make sure the irrigator has a licence and the irrigation needs to be installed according to the plant type, not install plants in grass areas and hope they get watered, plant zones water plants, no mixing plant watering with grass..
