Back hoe question
I have a landscape maint. business and toying with the idea of getting a tractor to expand services. My question is backhoe digging force. This is a loaded question but what is a number that you can actually do something with? I'm looking at ripping out shrubs, stumps, etc. Also, Does a backhoe come off easily so you can use other attachments or is this stay on? Iknow these are basic questions so don't be to crtical. Thanks Matt

Depends on the size tractor but they are pretty effective even on a subCUT. My father has a JD 2210 w/ hoe and it is pretty good at all the things you described. All the major manufacturers make them. I am looking for a woods 6000 for my GC2300 but they are hard to find. Pretty easy to takeoff. Make sure it is a subframe not 3pth. They won't do what a ford 555 will but they very useful and expensive. Can probably buy an older full size hoe for twice the cost of the hoe attachment but then you have 2 machines to take care of and the hassle of moving a full size machine etc etc

Small ones digging force is around 2000 lbs - like BX25 Kubota, Mahindra Max28, Massey GC series, Yanmar 2400, JD 1028R. They all will lift about 5-800lbs on the FEL, and are easy to trailer/pull with a 1/2 ton.
They can do a lot of work and fit in small spaces, build walls, do shrub replanting and they dont break the bank. THe next size up doubles the lifting and digging force - Kubota B21/B26 Yanmar 3200 but $35K new and $16-20 used. These lager machines can have pallet forks and hyd thumbs on the BH so a lot more utility.. |

I have a Kubota B-26 and I use it on almost all of my landscaping jobs. It's equiped with a 4 in 1 bucket(a must have for any landscaper) and a backhoe. My BH comes off in a 2 minutes and I can use the 3 point hitch for other implements. When doing residential work or jobs in a tight work space where a TLB is the right tool, the B 26 is a great piece. I have used this tractor for swimming pool condtruction, landscaping sand oddly, digging graves. It easily loads my F-750. It's a real easy tractor to operate and I encourage most landscapers to look at one of these BEFORE considering a skid steer.
