I've been noticing this large home in a nice neighborhood gathering debris on the roof. Now it looks like a yard up there. I'm not quite sure of the vegetation, and i'm wondering if they want it like this, or just won't get up there to clean it. I've heard about how mud homes can stay warmer in winter, and cooler in summer. That possibly could be their thinking. We actually have some restaurant nearby that has a landscaped yard on their roof. What do you think, laziness, or trying to save on utilities? Sorry for pic quality; it's from a tracfone.

That's pure laziness or just being penny wise/pound foolish. That roof system isn't designed for any thing but shingle's. That's going to cause major problem's, soon.

Here's an opportunity to make a new customer... walk up to the door and give them a quote to clean it before they have to buy a new roof... A stitch in time, saves nine, as it were...

Looks extremely steep. I'm guessing that's why they didn't do it. How would you do it? I have a mr. long arm? (i think that's name of it), and i could get about 90%, but maybe that stuff has established roots.

I use a snow scraper with 4 handle attachments, from a step ladder... Get a plastic head on the roof scraper though, the metal spades scrape off too much sand from the shingles...

That roof is way to far gone to even think about cleaning it. And those trees need to be cut back to prevent it from happening again.

It is always best to keep things off the roof,no matter how bad of a shape its in... those leaves are going to rot the roof boards and rafters by holding moisture in, under and through the shingles... protection from the sun, as much as possible is a good thing,,, so cutting back applies only to branches rubbing on the roof...
The best way to prevent this from happening again,,, is annual maintenance...

I wonder how the asphalt shingles contribute to the soil structure? Seriously I would expect it to need a complete resheathing, some rafter damage and rotting in the eaves. There is no washing it.
