Wow. Have you been in the military and do you know there's down time? Have you been in war deployed overseas? There is down time there as well. A little personal call every once in a while doesn't hurt.

Everyone in the military, commanders included take personal calls from time to time.

Or since all of America pays our salary we weren't entitled to that?

Nobody in my unit went on patrol with a cell phone. Why? Remember the video of Marines pizzing on corpses. Its a distraction when your mind is supposed to be on work. It ends up being a corner cutting race to finish so you can get back to your texting, angry birds, fruit ninjas or whatever. Just because your on windshield time doesn't mean your off the clock.

Who said anything about while on patrol. You're on duty 24/7 when you're in the military unless you're a weekend warrior. You mean to tell me stateside you never took a call while on duty?

Come on man nothing wrong with a call once in a while.

Cell phones stay in the truck. Once in the truck who cares.

You can't compare a military patrol with mowing grass or landscaping.

A phone conversation while on down time between jobs is harmless.

People can't disconnect from their damn phones. A call is not a problem, but it doesn't stop there. Its every time you get in the truck, then you catch somebody around the corner with his. Then somebody wrecks a company truck because they were on the phone. You may not be old enough to remember life went on just fine when phones were all connnected to the wall. Run your business however you want. Most of us are just sharing our practices and reasoning.

Hey man I'm with ya on that...there needs to be some distinction between occasional use and every free moment. the problem I see is the balance in between. But just like gun use, or anything for that matter, we can't discipline the majority for the few that wreck it for everyone else.

We have a no cell phone policy. Except on break and lunch. All phones stay in the truck. Took me long enough to teach the guys to keep working when I have to take a customer call!!
