Residential yards 1/4-1/2 acre average size. Whats the best mower setup?

Yeah I'm gonna go with a newer used hydro 36 and a decent 21 to start. That will get me started and I'll see if I need to upgrade larger throughout the season. Thanks.

Good choice. We run a 36" hydro with a Havener caster wheel sulky for our gated properties and it is a very versatile setup.

Depends on where you live. A 36" wb is not very useful in my parts, nobody uses them here. I use a 48" grandstand and hit the hard to reach areas with a pushmower. I have stopped taking any new yards with gates that my gs will not fit. After crunching the numbers based on time and profitability my 2 options were not feasible.

1. Pushmowing these backyards.
2. Buying, maintaining and hauling around a 32" wb for just a
handful of yards.

The new Toro commercial 30 looks like an option if it can double as a pushmower also. I know of a few other lcos that do not take these accounts either.

I'm gonna be doing the same size yards this summer....I'm thinking a walk behind 48" walk behind and 20 push mower. I'm not really in this for BIG money just enough for rent and to get me through 2 summer semesters. Plus this is my first season so any costs cut will help.

I upgraded my 20" push mowers last year to the toro 30" push mower , wow what a time savings , i would not go back , i do question the longevity of these compared to a reg 20 seems more sturdy , but if you have lawns like we do that the customer demands a push mower even though you could use a zero turn , alot of residential customers will demand that there lawn be push mowed , the 30 are awesome , save a bunch of time , at least for me it worked well , i would say a 30" push mower , and a larger hydro walk behind or zero turn , just my thoughts though.

48 inch Walker and a commercial 21 inch. If you don't bag get a stander instead of the Walker.

I do about the same work you do and this year I just bought a 60" exmark lazer z, I'm going to buy a 36" walk behind for the fences and use my big mower for the majority of my jobs

i have a 36'' and 52'' stander. as for how good of a setup that is i have yet to determine as i just picked up the 52 yesterday. figured that would allow me to do most sizes of yards pretty well, lots of the neighborhoods i'm planning to hit this year are ungated and the 52 will shine there
