Maybe a bit weird fert question

Hey guys

This maybe a bit weird of a question but here it goes, I use triple 10 around most of my shrubbery, tree's and fruit.

I applied last fall, maybe October and I just went to apply the spring app around everything and I see a lot of it has not melted, still see granules.

Are these like granules that won't melt but the fertilizer is gone?

Some slow release is coated and the fert weeps out leaving the shell behind that can last a long time.

That very well might be the case but this is just plain old 10-10-10

$13 for 50 Lb. bag so a little cheap to have slow release but you never know.

Still have some area's I have not got to that I did last fall so I'll look and see if its just a shell left.

Triple 10 is just 30% active so you might be seeing some cheap filler material too. You sure it is not aggregate off the roof?

No, this is away from the house so not off the roof.

Filler was my first thought, was looking for confirmation to that.

Pretty much as to be it. The coated products that release via osmosis are very expensive. There are some others that release base on temp as the pores open up and the liquid inside weeps out as it expands. Again very expensive.

The analysis 10-10-10 to a 50# bag gives heavy on the filler side, over 60% of the 50#'s. You would leave lots of filler for $13,,, for 50#. I believe in "you get what you pay for". That's a solid blanket application. Good on return.

Sorry I got busy and didn't get back to answer this question

I checked the granules that are still around the bushes, not a shell. I picked a few out and had them in my hand, thay are grey in color and about half the size of a BB but hard as a rock.

That residue is filler, could be lime, but will soon disappear. The minerals will leach out of the mix and do their work. Put a little around your mailbox and watch what happens in 2/3 weeks. You'll be fine, don't worry so much. I even use it on my own lawn and mother-in-law's here in Tennessee. It will last about two months or so. Fescue is the easiest grass there is to manage. Just stay away from the Urea.
