In the 3yrs i was a cop, i prolly took 20+ theft reports for tailgates. They arent cheap.

Hose clamp on the end that slips out will surely slow them down!

You can always lock it but that's a pain to be locking your tailgate constantly. In one of my customer's neighborhoods they did have several stolen in one night. They're expensive to replace. I'd be furious! I'm actually surprised that it's not more common.

Its really commom it seems like, drive by any car dealer in town they all remove the tailgates and store them inside unless they are lockable. You can get locks for them...
