Towing a 120 size excavator with single axle dump???
I am looking at purchasing a large single axle dump (int 8100) is there any way i could legally tow a 120 on a 15 ton pintle hitch trailer?

I think you could likely do it from a safety standpoint. As to whether or not your legal is up to your State DOT. Here it we use a bridge law type formula. So overall length factors with the number of axles and the amount of contact patch per tire. I think what might cause you issue (assuming you have system like we do) is the amount of weight on the rear axle of that single axle truck. With the right trailer you could likely manage, but it would take some experimenting as to the proper placement of the track hoe on the trailer as to not go over on the rear truck axle.

Without doing the math, I'd say you might be cutting it close. Here we're good for 34,000 between a pair of axles (trailer) as long as you have 40 feet I believe it is between the next set of tandems (truck). As you well know, you don't have anywhere near the length with a tag trailer and you're already down an axle on the truck. I have my book around here somewhere, let me see if I can fish it out for the axle group ratings however they may differ from where you're at.
