Ohio to allow irrigation contractors to test backflows

Got a letter the other day, the state of Ohio is going to allow irrigation contractors to test backflows. You have to have 5 years experience doing irrigation; take the class and pass the test. Also you can only test backflows associated with irrigation systems.

That's going to piss off a lot of plumbers.

I think anyone can test them here, if they pass the test and get licensed. Plumbers, irrigation guys, dog catchers, grocery store baggers, and even motor-home-driving wine-sniffing-hippies

The first time I went to the left coast, and hit a TJ's in Oregon, it was $2.00. But the last couple times we hit TJ's in Santa Fe and again in Oregon, it was $3.00. For $2.00, it's hard to beat, but for $3.00 I'll keep looking for something better. We FINALLY get Trader Joe's here in CO later this year - Boulder and Denver.

This went into affect just before the first of the year. I have taken and passed the class, waiting on my certification card and number to show up. You have to sign a codicil and must be notarized. Basically it states that you will not test any other device other than Lawn Irrigation. If numerous irri. guys are testing building containment or fire suppersion and its brought to the board we might all have our license revoked. I agree this will upset some plumbers but this has been a long time coming. I am glad that they have opened it up. But the kicker is check with your local water departments, some are still going to require a licensed plumber to perfrom the annual test. Any way this is one small step for man kind, one giant step for irrigators.
