There are a few out there. What are you trying to kill? Selective or kills all vegetation?

Finale has been around awhile. Not really impressed with it. Scythe is cheaper (at least at JD Landscapes/Lesco) and provides good top kill if it coats the vegetation. Both are contact herbicides (no translocation) and depend on complete coverage of the weeds. Perennials usually survive unless they are young. With repeat applications of scythe I've killed creeping fig where it was not wanted without harming the rest of the plant.

Boiling water works fine. Propane torch or flamer used for paving work? But maybe someone has seen a device that uses propane and produces a jet of steam. Sort of a portable steam iron. In any case, concentrate on cooking the growing point (apical merestem) of the weed. Just killing the leaves will only slow it down

For non-chemical selective weed control that works:

Not 'organic', but Tenacity is fantastic. A little whitening on your good grass, and it wipes out all the stuff you don't want.

There is no true ogranic herbicide that I am aware of. I have used straight vinager on some of the weeds in flower beds and mulch beds and have great results. But i would avoid using that in the lawn because it will act as a non-selective.

ADIOS is an EPA Exempt all natural selective post emergent for control of many broad-leaf weeds and crabgrass.
