Unfortunately you are probably too late. Borers as they damage a tree also cut off the flow of the life supply to the tops of the tree. If a tree is greater than 40% damaged it is probably too late. Good luck

I would say 20%. Is it the borers that are actually causing the bark to fall.off? I've notices an abundance of ants under the loose pieces of bark... I figured they didn't cause the damages but are a results of the borers...
