It's intresting to see how trucks reliability vary from person to person. I have both Ford and GM in my small fleet and talking about the front ends on Fords just seem to fall apart and I donn't even plow with them, think it's due to lack of grease fittings.
MY 02 F450 has 3 fittings one on each tie rod and one on the drag link. Both my 01 3500 and 93 2500 chevy trucks have 20 plus grease fittings also I might add that my 93 chevy @ 232000 miles and twenty years of pushing snow and pulling trailers has the original rivited ball joints.
Not saying Ford is any better than GM this is just my experince.

For sure.

GM 8.1, yeah, good motor. Loves gas. Loves gas way too much.

I Purchased a 2013 sillverado 3 months ago. A half ton ext cab, 5.3 with the gm six speed. 335 hp, 315 lb ft of torque 17.6 mpg around town, 1900 lb payload, big towing capacity with the factory trailering set up. You dont need a 3/4 ton with the big motor. 28 years in business, all i run is gm and isuzu. I had fords diesels and dodge, they are not as reliable as gm's, they burn more fuel and they just dont last! I buy new trucks and run them 12-20 years!

So you're saying that a GM half tom with pull around 6K and a dump insert leaf box all day with no problems?

I think the half ton 5.3 will do the job no problem. If you get the new six speed, use the manual shifting option in tow/haul mode!

I've owned both the Ford 5.4 and the Chevy 6.0
The Ford 5.4 was a little weak IMO, but it was saddled with the 4 speed trans. Probably wouldn't get another one. The newer 6 speed transmissions with manual shift option really help whatever engine you have when pulling.
