I have enough business that kept myself and another tech busy all week with labor and a part-time office manager. We've picked up a real nice condo association thus far and hope to key in on some other good jobs.

I now have 2 part-time (30-38HRS/WEEK) plus an office manager.

That's good you can get some dependable people under your belt. It's hard to find some dependable workers out here. They want money but don't want to work for it.

I made the mistake early in if starting people at $10/hr-I lost a lot if money to non-hard working people. Currently start them
At $8.50 and raise after 3 months (spring season). I give them and extra $1.50 if thy get their applicator license. They could be up to $100 by the end of their first season if they earn it. I give occasional bonuses

I understand you, but around here I'll never be able to get someone to work for me for $8.50 unless it's a young kid with no experience. I just hired a guy starting him off at $10.00 and if the guy does good and have a good work ethic I'll give him a raise. But if you want to keep a good worker you have to pay him good.

I can't say mines a proved method bc I haven't been in business long enough or hired enough guys but the $8.50 is just until they prove themselves. Minimum is 6 weeks b4 their first $1.00 raise and if they are worth keeping and show potential to become great, ill stretch the raise out to 12 weeks (3 months). They are at $9.50 after 1st raise plus $1.50 if they pass applicators test (which I pay for) and random bonuses plus $10/week for fuel back and forth from work to home.

Like I said, they can be up to $11/hr by seasons end if they earn it but I try to throw little incentives in. But you are correct that most people who work for these smaller wages are younger guys.
