Should I even bother looking? (2000 Scag WB)

I was browsing Craigslist, as I'm thinking about getting a walk behind (32" or 36").

Right now I only have three yards to cut including mine, and it's the largest at around 10,000 sq/ft. It just takes forever with my little 22" push mower.

I found a 2000 Scag SWU36-15KH with a 15hp Kohler Command Pro. The guy said it's complete and ran fine until this past fall when "the rings went out and it started smoking real bad". He said the carb also needs rebuilt.

If I'm reading his Craigslist ad right, he only wants $150 for it. Should I even bother? I tried Googling this model and all I can come up with are parts diagrams from online parts sellers.

Thanks in advance!

Worse case scenario, spend $500 on a new motor. $650 mower that's worth 1k...

That is far from a worst case scenario... You could be in 100 bucks at least in tires, new motor (500 for a cheap one), blades (60 bucks), belts (100 bucks) spindle bearings (100 bucks) and hoping the trans and pto check out if not your in money for those too. So now your at over 1k plus time and labor. You could take a a leap with it and if you have the time and money to put into it go for it, maybe everything checks out and you got a deal.

Heck yea id buy it, that is a darn good deal. I bought a 90s model Scag 36"(has the 36 spline tranny) this year and it works great. I gave $300 for it and all it needed was a Engine and transmission pulley. $40 bucks later I have a walk behind that will probably outlast my ZTRs. Where that one is a 2000 model id say it is in good shape for its age and will last awhile. Belt Drive WB's are extremely easy to fix and parts are not expensive. That one is a nice one, especially with the Kohler engine. Mine has the ole standard Kawi FB460v, its a good engine but id much rather have the Kohler. I bet you could talk him down to $100 as well, at least $125.

Well, I called the guy but apparently I was too late. He said it sold within an hour of him posting it. The guy that bought it offered $250, even though he had it listed for $150.... wow.

I'm surprised that you guys are saying Kohler over the Kawasaki.. when I was looking a few years ago at buying, almost everyone I ran into said Kohler was junk and that's why almost all your homeowner mowers had Kohler and Kawasaki was on higher end equipment.
