Aeravator owners- how dry?

I'm thinking of selling our befco green-rite overseeder and picking up a used aeravator that I came across. We've rented the aeravator in the past and it is an awesome tool. My one concern is that since the soil has to be dry for the aeravator to work, it will be useless in the spring. Any aeravator owners care to chime in?
