Better a fixed income than a "broke" income

I'm on a fixed income too. It's $40/cut for you just like everyone else, on this street.

It's hard to fix your income on a fixed income, or something....

Hate takes too much energy. Tell 'em have one of their big strapping young relatives to do it. Learn to charge for bids.

I had one of these "age cards" pulled on me last week. I picked up a new lawn and I was going to cut it for the first time. I agreed to cut it for $120 per month and then when I get there he comes out and the guy says he's on a limited income since he's retired and his last guy did it for $100 per month. I sucked it up since I was already there and cut it but he was one of the worst customers I've had for other reasons and I won't be returning.

I HATE when ppl pull that shite. Im sure my face reflects it too cause I just want to turn and walk away. I had one who I was ready to drop and they came out to do the monthly haggle. Just as I took a deep breath a garbage truck rolls up and skips their house (keep in mind there is a Cadillac in the driveway of a nice house). I just smile and say "if waste management cant afford to cut you a break then why do think my little business can afford to do ?"

i think the problem is there are too many people out there that mow on the side part time. people don't realize that many of us do this for a living and this is our career. we support our families, pay for insurance, buy food, pay bills, buy houses, buy cars, etc. just like anyone else does.

they seem to look at it like we are all just doing it for extra spending money so they don't see it from our point of view. they will haggle over an extra $5 a week. it's rediculous.

Being on a fixed income is one thing...

Not being able to live within one's means, quite another.

Same people, always crying the sad story song...
Smoke Marlboros, drink Pepsis, and eat at McDonald's.
All these are brand names, and a brand name always costs the most.
Why can't it be generic smokes, Kool Aid, and some homemade sandwiches?
See, they sure don't seem to have a problem spending it there.
Oh, and a nice car in the driveway?

yeah my income isn't exactly unlimited either
and it isn't my job to finance their lavish lifestyle.

Hint:
I give MORE people a break who at least LOOK like they are really TRYING!
Pulling out 'discount' cards when I arrive for the estimate is generally not looking good lol

i'm in my 3rd year in this business now. i'm learning how weird people really are. i mean come on man.

you wanna pay someone to cut your grass because you are too lazy or unable to do it. yet they expect us to do it for free almost?

if they wanna save money they should mow their own grass themselves or get their kid to do it.

i just wanna shake people sometimes and say ok look. you want me to cut your grass then pay me for it. if you don't then do it yourself. which is it gonna be?

Recently i agreed to talk to an elderly man 80ish, who was 2 doors down from a premium customer. He said his last lawn guy won't call him back. I got suspicious right there. I told him 30, and he said "well, i want to see how long it takes you". I told him that i don't get paid by the hour. It was a long silence; not sure if he expected that from me, or maybe he's used to getting his way. He said "i don't know about that. Come over when you're finished your yard." I told him that the price wouldn't change, and ended up walking off. I had to cut him off, because he was trying to manipulate me. When i was done 2 doors down, i think he thought that i would stop, but i kept rolling.
