What a nightmare start to the season

Friday vent....

A foot of snow yesterday here, with an absolute Freak snowstorm. Never before have we had more than 1 inch of snow in May at any one time since the late 1800's. Temps are going to warm up, but will take days to melt this off.

I have not started Rd 1 yet. Probably good, cause any pre put down before this snow is washed clear out. Yet this weather is going to compress the green season SO much it is just going to be insane. Very frustrated. Did 3 days worth of power raking prior to this, now shut down till, in my estimation, middle of next week. Who else is in the same boat?

Seems we can't get anything done for all the rain. When ever I get close to cought up it rains for 3 days. I still have some rd 1 to do yet and can't get my mowing routes done. Don't even bring up mulching...lol

The weather here in North Central Oklahoma has been difficult to deal with also.. Got our first app down fine but the weather has totally screwed us around for our second app. We hired a full time service tech to do our second round because we won't have time with the mowing getting ready to take off. With the moisture we have had the grass will be growing great guns as soon as it begins to warm up. But I would rather have to deal with lots of work rather than the difficulties we have had to deal with the past 2 seasons (drought).

We got snow may 1st as well here in SD. So far this season is shaping up to be the best ever. I'm running 20+ leads a day and my crews and running non stop. This year will bring som challenges especially if we get rain. I hope my new help works out this season. If so it will be another record year. 30% increase is expected.

1st Round went pretty good except for some sneaky snow and rain. Those storms were like ninja's, showing up without warning or earlier than expected. I pretty much skipped my 2nd round(dry fert), here in central OK. Soil temps were in the 40's and the Bermuda was not very active. Some areas again were below freezing this morning. I'm adjusting my apps, going with a blanket pre, post, liquid 32-0-0 and Fe. I charge a little a extra for the liquid fert and wait til June and sling some coated slow release N.

Thats awesome for your leads and new business. What about organic growth?
You have to be taking a hit from this extended winter and cold weather. Is your new business more than making up for that?

Snow is fine--I think--if it snows after you put on your pre-emergent. It waters it in gradually and thoroughly. Weather is very strange this year. Did you say a foot of show...AFTER...the grass had greened up? After the first mowing? So will you have snow mold?

No we haven't mowed here quite yet. There wont be any snow mold cause the snow will have only been on the lawns a few days before it melts right back off again.

I did not have any pre down prior to this snow. I don't think you understand just how much water is running off lawns right now. Any pre put down prior to snowfall is flat out gonna be washed out. It also rained heavily here before the snow came, and its going to rain heavily again potentially tonight. I am not happy that I cannot get out and work now BUT I am ok with not having put down any 1st round product yet.

We are in the same boat DA. The turf is absolutely saturated! We have done one clean up and have a helluva list. We will probably skip right to mowing while performing clean ups just like last year
