Pine Straw Harvesting

Hey guys, I am completely new to the Pine Straw Harvesting business. I have owned and operated a successful Landscape and Lawn Maintenance business in Mobile County for several years and I am branching out.

I have acquired 10 Acres of Slash Straw and we are currently HAND BALING everything. I have an additional 50 Acres I can get on but it needs to be cleaned first, and I am not 100% sure it is all slash. All the trees appear to be the same: size, shape, growth pattern, color, ect. but some of the needles are 6-8 inches and others are 10-12 inches. I am worried they might be or have some loblolly mixed in, any help in identifying the types of trees? (I have my landscape / Horticulture degree and looked up traits of the trees online but am still a little stumped.)

How important is a controlled burn in a pine stand?

I am looking for Vendors, any suggestions besides local landscapers? (We are out of Saraland AL, and are currently baling in Wilmer and Citronelle.)
