leaf gall

Is this leaf gall? and does the leaf look like witch hazel? It is more of a tree form than usual, tall central leader etc. I should have taken a picture of the tree to clarify that second part. any help on how to treat this would be great.

You might want to do an "Image" search for both those questions and learn a little bit about them... I'm not sure but I think it may very well be gall... I see it everywhere in the forests, but never thought of it as an issue...
One leaf on any tree/shrub can look quite differently from other leaves of the same tree/shrub so that guess would be near useless, unless it gave another name to search...
