Weeds and pea gravel question..

Great forum here guys..quick question for you. We have a fire pit in the yard. Dug out about a 4-5' radius roughly 4-5 inches deep. Installed about 3" of pea gravel. I think I should have installed some plastic first before the stone but I didn't. Fast forward a year or so and now I'm spraying random weeds every week or so. So should I try and shovel some out, install plastic and so forth until I have plastic all the under? Or should I just kill the weeds, use a good pre-emergent? What would you guys do? Thanks in advance...

roundup should last a month or two before you have to spray it again.

to do it right you need to put something under the gravel like plastic to keep the weeds out.

Pre-m the stone... I'd hate the stink involved if the plastic started to smoke from the heat of the firepit...

How would RU last a month or more...

what's aking over the mulch beds

I really don't know what's taking over this mulch bed. Could be Dayflower? Maybe some sort of ground cover? Not sure. Anybody out there know? Customer wants it removed. It took over the Daylillys, you can hardly see them and it keeps spreading. I had it all cleaned out in May and put Snapshot down and it's back in full force.

Never learned the name of it but is definately a perennial with a small blue flower... very difficult to eliminate and a good example of something that Pre-M will not have any affect upon...
I would put a piece of cardboard down as a protective barrier from the spray and carefully glysophate the stuff in order to get the roots... I have this running around my own garden and pulling by hand doesn't get the roots adequately enough to erradicate the weed...
