Im just having a problem with so much damage to the ports on the cylinder block..and so little damage to the valve plate.???
The cylinder block is constantly held against the valve plate...if metal got between them...theyd both be chewed up...
Nothing i like better than a puzzle with pieces that dont fit....
Theres another possibility....
Somebody built the pump out of used parts to get the mower working so they could sell it..

I thought about that too, but the mower certainly looks all original, and the bolts looked untouched. If someone did that, they were a genius at covring their tracks.

This forum has educated a bunch of mechanics...look at the hit count on this thread alone...
Any competant mechanic can put something together just like it came apart..
If you dont make tracks...there arent any tracks to cover...

I came up with a workable theory...
You guys know how I hate puzzles with no clear cut solution..

This pump had a bearing failure before the last filter change...
The mechanic replaced all the parts he THOUGHT were damaged...
The damage on the cylinder block was so uniform...the ROOKIE thought it was normal...an OK part...
He flushed the system...replaced the filter and fluid..The pump operated...but not real good..
They decided to use it anyway and quickly tired of the sluggish operation...
Rather than waste anymore time and money...they sold it to....Kman....

Piston Slapper, you really stick with a puzzle, don't you! I really appreciate that!

That is a possibility. I've taken a lot of things apart before, and what bugs me is even if the mechanic was very good, and used all the right wrenches not to leave a mark on the bolts (which is possible), the fittings were all fairly stuck. I mean, not just tight, where they loosen with an even torque, but stuck.

By stuck, I mean they loosened with a "crack", like bolts and fittings that have been together for a long time without being disturbed. They loosen with a big "crack" and then regular loosening torque.

I may be wrong, but this is why I'm not sure it's been touched.

As you may have guessed by now, this is not a money making mower for me. I plan on mowing with this for the rest of my life. Plus, I like taking things apart, so while I've already got it partially apart, I'm going to take the wheel motor apart. For $53 bucks (seal kit), why not? It'll give me more working knowledge of the mower, and then I'll know for sure if the system is really clean and possibly get more clues.

My only problem now is getting a monster 1 1/2" socket for the hub nut! I'll report back what I find.

Is there any special procedure to remove the brake drum? The nut came off with no problems, but the drum is pretty stuck. I expected that, like car brake drums get really stuck too, but I wanted to make sure I don't miss something.

The e-brakes are off, and I've got a two pronged gear puller on nuts on the wheel studs.

I assume it's just brute force?

It's a tapered shaft. Put the nut on before pulling..
Parker of HydroGear? You will need a manual. Torque
on hub nut and motor through bolts are critical. Parkers
are fairly simple. HydroGear aren't.

It's a Parker TF series wheel motor.

Why put the nut on the shaft before pulling? To prevent the shaft from enlarging?

Where can I get a manual?
