Having just pulled the plug myself, and purchased a Cheetah (61', 31 Kawasaki), I will cut for the first time next Monday (unless it's too wet, we don't cut wet.... period).

The one thing I will miss about cutting with the Kubota L2900 and the 72" groomer, is the sun canopy on the tractor. It was large enough, I could cut at high noon in the highest heat conditions, and I was well shielded from the sun (that made things really cool).

BUT, I look forward to shaving about an hour on the cut of the entire yard. When I demoed the Cheetah last week, I was able to cut the entire yard with the Cheetah in under two hours. Cutting the entire yard with the JD 345 & the Kubota & groomer would take us 3-1/2 hours when the grass was tall (which was often, remember we don't cut wet).

We look forward to a happy life with our new cat (Cheetah)......

I am currently in the market for a new mower and would like some opinions. I have about 1 acre to mow but its very thick, to the point that if it rains it might take a week or more to fully dry out. I am mowing right now with a Husqvarna YTH2348 lawn tractor from Lowes but it has a tendency to clog the deck with grass very often (which causes spots of dead grass as the clippings suffocate the lawn) and always leaves significant windrows of grass at the edge of the chute.

I have so far been to the Scag and Hustler dealer, where I have taken a look at the Freedom Z and both the Fastrak and Fastrak Superduty. I was quoted 6899 for the 52" Freedom Z with the Kawi FS691. The Fastrak was 5999 with the FS691 and 6799 for the FX730 equipped Fastrak Super duty both in 52". I also have near me Ferris, Gravely, and most other dealers within 10-15 miles, just not sure what is comparable yet.

So is there other brands I should be looking at and for the Ferris and Gravely what models are comparable to the Fastrak Super Duty/Freedom Z style of mowers? Also the prices I were quoted from the dealer are from hardware store style dealers so I am not sure if they are really inline with what most pay or not? I am in Western North Carolina if that helps at all.

Thanks for the assistance.

Hi Cadmium,

Like you, when my yard is wet, it takes a few more days than the norm to dry. I know I could have chosen a less expensive mower for my yard, but because the grass get very think and tall after a wet issue before it's dry enough for my liking, I went with a bigger engine (Kawasaki 31 hp) and the Scag Cheetah 61".

I feel sure that size engine will serve me well with my yard issues....

Used mower vs new mower

Hey guys, I was thinking about buying a mower for my 2 acre lot that I mow. I have decided to go with a hustler mower. I was wondering if it would be better to buy a new mower like the raptor or buy a used fastrack off of craigslist with about 300 hours.

I would go with the fastrak. I don't think the Raptor is really a 2 acre mower.

my new ferris

Went with the Ferris IS 600Z 48 inch, 25 HP Briggs, for my 1 acre with the accelerator catcher. Suspension really helps smooth the ride.
