sentar

ok i have a older sentar, it runs good but when I shut it off and try to restart it does not want to fire over. Why do i need to look for? new plugs new igniton coil and rebuilt the carb

I have to choke mine almost every time I go to restart it. I also have to hold pressure on the parking brake switch between the pumps. I call it my security system. It works good because no one can start it but me.

seems like when motor gets warm then shut off its hard s heck to fire back up

ukcats,

Is it an older dual fuel tank Sentar or a single fuel tank Sentar Sport? If the dual tank and old enough it doesn't have the starter interlock system like the Sentar Sports have between the pumps. A few things should be looked at as potential causes. Restriction in the fuel system (clogged filter), valve adjustment (should be checked every 300 hours), strength of spark when hot vs cold (old plugs, or coils getting hot), dirty air filter, debris under engine cowl causing coils to get too hot, choke out of adjustment.

its the older sentar dual tanks. just replaced plugs, ignition coils, fuel filter and carb and had the valves adjusted. once I shut it off and try to restart is when it won't start uless it sits for 5 mins or so

Subscribing...I have the same problem with my 52" rapid height. Starts right up first thing then in between properties (5-10 mins) I go to start and it just keeps cranking... I choke it then it finally starts but it's real rough and backfiring. Then I'll put the blades on and it starts to stall out.

Does it run fine for long periods? It could be a vapor lock or fuel tank not venting gasses until it cools off. Probably not it, but try cracking the fuel lid then restarting it.

we had this issue this year as well and the mechanic finally (after taking it in numerous times) changed out the coil and gave it a valve adjustment and it ran sweet from then on. I would look into those two things.

This is correct. Valve clearances are super critical in these engines. Everybody can't seem to find a good coil supplier. They all have way too short a lifespan for the money these days. Mowers should be like cars and go 1000 hours without anything besides oil changes.

sounds like a pretty cut and dried case of valves out of adjustment to me
