Ground ivy has a distinct smell. Its a bear to stay on top of it. Especially if your neighbors have it. The guy that works for me replanted his lawn 2 years ago. Its now choked out by ground ivy

I was going to mention that, but left it out since he didn't mention that in his OP. To me, it smells like I just cut grass covered with pepper. My neighbors on either side of me have it, but I don't. I use Scott's lawn products on my own lawn and have never had any trouble keeping it out, but yes, if left unchecked it will take over quickly.

I just moved to the home farm this spring. Loaded with weeds. I used tzone on a good part and it burned every weed down. Wild violets are another pesky one line ground ivy.

I only mentioned the smell as you said some get it confused.

Common Mallow is another weed that looks similar to Ground Ivy.
