Seeding Question?

I recently cleared about 1/3 of acre of brush and vines from my property. The area is pretty much dirt with some wood chip remnants mixed in. There are still some roots from the vines around, but I've gotten most of them out. I want to seed this area and was curious how a professional would approach this. This portion of the property now gets sun and the soil is very good. I was going to rototill the entire area and apply the seed via an ordinary garden spreader in late September/October. I'm located in Long Island, New York.

Does anyone had any advice or comments? Thanks in advance!
