Grass around Pine Tree

I've heard pine needles are acidic and can kill any grass underneath it, but what about around it? I have a lawn where a huge stretch of grass by their curb is just completely yellow. We've gotten record amounts rainfall this year so drought has nothing to do with it. The grass is about 6 feet from the edge of the tree so do you think this is why it's turning yellow?
