Definitely hack. I'm not seeing any sort of base other than sand. In Daytona no less. Sand on sand. Unreal.

I can't believe people make a living destroying properties with this work. Keeps the rest of us in business doing repairs though. I had to tear up and reset a walkway in July. It sucks that people have to shell out extra money to get garbage work fixed, but that's why price shopping with hardscaping is never a good idea. I'm going to print these pictures out for customers when I do estimates from now on to include in a seperate portfolio titled "you get what you pay for".

Guy who did this masterpiece told me that he gave up mowing cause he is 'tired of being nickel and dime'd , way more money doing hardscapes'

does anyone else think the first picture looks like it is higher in the center which would cause water to run to the house?

its not just the sidewalk, its an entire patio. I couldn't imagine the homeowner being happy but she has never said anything about it.

If I wouldn't have saw the guy doing the install, I would have figured this for a homeowner DIY attempt.
But it was contracted :O

Put some pipes on there and it could probably be a septic tank.
