Looking at Purchasing a ride on aerator

Im looking at purchasing a ride on aerator. I have a brand new permagreen so adding an over seeder is not a necessity. Was wondering what people have had and what they've spent.

As far as I know there are only two of them. The Classen and the Toro/Exmark. I demoed both and bought the Exmark. No contest in my mind.

Have owned the Classen, Z-Plug and the Toro ride on aerators. Hands down the Toro is the best nimble pulls great plugs almost enjoy aerating. Now the Toro is our newest and has only 40hrs but so far have not had any trouble with it. Time will tell but so far impressive.

I forgot about the Z-Plug. Don't have any opinions on that one.

Can I ask how a PG makes an overseeder unnecessary?

Not sure what overseeder means for sure, but to me it means using a lawn spreader to spread grass seed. I'm guessing what elitetc has in mind: apply grass seed beforehand, and then aerate multiple times to work it in. Then maybe drag afterwards. (this is what we do most of the time).

Some guys aerate 1st and then spread seed (but we like it the other way around). Seed/soil contact seems to be crucial IMO (preferably with some sort of soil covering most of the seed). We double slit seed some lawns, but must me dry loam soil IMO.

thoughts?

Today I was aerating lawns next door to lawns we seeded in early October. The 2 lawns we seeded = new grass was emerging out of the aerated holes. About 1 - 1 1/2 inches tall grass. Just spoke with our daughter -- her lawn was slit seeded during the same time period, but nothing's coming up yet. I'm talking about folks who do not water.

We saw the first Z-Plug in town this week. Never saw one before (except at LT Rich). Unmarked pickup pulling a trailer.

Service, Mike, anybody else -- RABBITTMAN is gunna kill me, cuz I am now using Fluid Film to lube the (6) chains (daily) on our Exmark 30". So far, so good. The unit works great & currently has about 65 hours on it. We are currently pulling 1 1/2 - 3 1/2 inch plugs on every yard. These results have also gotten us new customers too, cuz they were impressed with their neighbors' aeration results. They are amazed at the length of plugs. So am I.
