Time to get rid of the toro

Hey everyone!

Well after the family having toro mowers since 1987, I'm rotating the ztr out and seriously kicking around going to Scag.

I love the way my Toro 60" stripes and love the way it hugs the hills but hate the fact I have to double cut most of the season and how easily the spindles bend.

I'm looking at the Scag Cheetah or Scag Turf Tiger. I mow about 35 acres per week and 70% are 2-3 acres. I have added 10 additional properties for this upcoming season and will put me around 50 acres.

Looking for pros and cons of the Scag...DFS bagger or 3 bagger system?

Cheetah's are quick, while the TT is known for being able to stand up to over a decade of abuse. Both machines will do great, but the cheetah may finish 1st at the end of the week.

Thats what I'm kinda looking for. My Toro has never had a pump replaced at 2500 hours but has had the PTO ever 750 hours, all three spindles rebuild every 800-900 hours, and every 3 months I need to weld the deck edge because I like to rub it on curbs.

I squeeze all my mowing into 3.5 days per week by choice (yes full time) I like my days off fishing. I put almost 45 hours per week on the mower, so I'd really like something faster not bigger (many places 72" is too big).

What kind of repairs are guys seeing and at what intervals?

OP sounds like you like to beat the heck out of your mowers....
How do you bend a spindle? Never done that before.

It the flimsy plate on the end of the shaft that the blade threads into. They're junk on the 2nd generation TFD deck. They redesigned the spindle in 2010.

I run a 2006 toro zmaster 48 a 2009 toro zmaster 52 and a 2011 toro 52 grandstand. They all seem to stand up well. At GIE last year I looked at the brands for mowers, I think we will be staying with toro or might try a john Deere for our next mower. I have talked with perficut who is one of the largest lawn care companies in Iowa, one of there guys told me the scags don't stand up to the exmarks or john deeres. But it all depends who is running them and the properties for any mower.

Hustler is a decent machine. Problem is the closest dealer is an hour away. I've got a Scag dealer in the neighborhood
