USDOT # will cost you in 2015

Just read in the local farm publication "Delmarva Farmer" that if you are thinking of getting a USDOT number you better do it in 2014 while it's still free.

In 2015 a fee of $300.00 is set to be imposed.

Got this info from the MD State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division that recently gave a trucking forum to area farmers on what the new rules are for their operation.

Don't know if this just pertains to MD farmers or anyone requesting a number. I'm guessing its for anyone since there is only one USDOT number that I'm aware of.

Going from free to $300.00 is worth looking into so I thought I'd pass the info along.

I'm bout over this DOT crap. If we didn't bag everything I'd go back to half ton's and single axle trailers to be under 10,000 GVWR.

I remember when EVERYONE ran half tons and single axle trailers… sigh those were the days…. we'd watch people drive by in a ford ranger with a 14 foot norway spruce in the back and the front tires barely touching the ground wondering how long it would take for the springs to break…..

dang, those were the days!

There wasn't anything else that applied to anyone besides MD farmers with farm truck tags.

There is a bill in this years MD legislative session that relaxes the trucking guidelines. Farmers don't have to have a CDL if they drive their covered trucks no more than 150 "air" miles.

They said it wasn't a matter of if the bill would pass but when.

I'll give the MD State Police credit for letting these guys know whats going on.

Be nice if they would sit down with the rest of us and let us know what we need for our type operation.
