Please help choose stihl hedge trimmer

Hello guys,
I have the kombi which has performed awesome, but I want something a little lighter and easier to maneuver. So I am considering buying a stihl hedge trimmer because I have good dealer support, good product, etc..
It looks like the choices for me are between the HS 56 C-E, or more likely the HS 81 R or HS 81 T.
If anyone has experience with these models please let me know.

Also wondering about the blade size. It comes in 24" or 30". 30" might be too big for me..

thanks so much

You can compare rejuvenating(81R) to finish blades(F) and decide on the right 81 for you to start with and later you can buy longer bars if you want. I was nearly given a new Echo 150 3 years ago by a dealer trying to sweeten a deal we made. I like it because it is cheap and small. I throw it in the truck all the time for a day and don't worry so much if it breaks back there. I would recommend the Echo for a beginner but I too appreciate the time and place for Stihl.

I know what you mean about this beastly unit. Freakin huge but nothing stops it. Here is what i did i went to walmart, they have a poulan head that fits the kombi and i got it for $65. Much shorter shaft, makes this a functional short hedger. This is a youtube of some guy dismantling one for an echo but it fits the stihl as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld7bV5jpTKA
Give it a shot, it works and has plenty of power. Obviously not the stihl but it works

I have both the HS-56 C and the HS81T… Like the both, love the HS81T. Buy it.

Don't go buying anything from WalMart……..

Bought a Stihl chainsaw which burned out the cylinder head after only a year and a half of light use and proper gas/oil etc. They would not stand behind their product and wanted me to pay the local place $70/hr to find out what happened to it. How's that for support. I would buy a Echo instead. They have a 5yr warranty not a one year which is absurd.

If you have work that justifies a Stihl you will regret going the cheaper route. I can tell you that, and I hear it here all the time. Also one guy's bad luck cannot compare to generations of industry pro's experience. It's just one guys bad luck. I got my stories too.
