What do u think? (Mowing Job)

I m doing on a property that is about 1/2 acre maybe just little bigger, with a lot of trimming. Their is about 35 trees with beds to trim around and edge. A lot of obstacles to trim around in the front. Then have to edge all the beds around the building which is good amount..
I m think it s going to take a hour and half with two people...

Charge $80 a cut..
What do u guy think to low or high?
Thanks

1.5 hours with two people?

Does that mean 3 man hours total (two guys on site for an hour and a half)
Or does that mean 1.5 man hours (two guys on site for 45 minutes?)

In the first case that's a wee bit over $26/hr….too low
In the second case it's $53/hr…which is… competitive?

What kind of equipment are you using?

Your time could be cut down considerably if you were using walker mowers or mulching decks with good dual side trim ability.

Do you really think you need to 'edge' every single visit?

A half acre with obstacles like you describe, using a 36" mower at 5 mph and 60% efficiency (to compensate for overlap of going around trees a bunch of time etc) would take 26 minutes.
Figure and equal amount of time for trimming at 26 minutes and 10 minutes travel time.

that's 62 minutes.

a good trained crew could get out of there; 2 men 30 minutes.

So you're looking at $60.00 (on average)

A lot of guys might look at all those obstacles and be overwhelmed… so $80 is probably going to be a pretty average bid.

As for edging, I'd hit it with a stick edger first thin in site spring and maybe once a month for june, july, and september… but me personally, I wouldn't edge every week.

I think, as a guess without seeing it, you'll make decent money at $80 and be 40% likely to land the bid.

One-half acre is not very large. I can't visualize a normal lawn of that size, no matter how many obstacles, requiring 3 man hours to service. I suspect that you will find two people will do it in 30 minutes or less (1 man hour).

I can't see a 1/2 acre property taking 3 man hours to service…are the two guys using scissors or are they just chewing the grass to the proper height.

One of my properties is a little over an acre and a half with about 60 trees that takes less than 3 man hours to service.

Regarding the part in bold: Are you cutting new edges on all the beds on just the first visit? Is this where you are getting your 1 1/2 hours for two men (3 man hours)? Or are you estimating 3 man hours for every service visit?

-Yes I was considering 3 man hrs..

-I was going to use a 36 in walk behind and 52 in GS..

The first cut I was going to cut new edges, and we also going to take care of the weeds in the mulch beds. Also pick up any trash we may see on the property.

I estimated three man hours also became sometimes I may have to do the property by myself or something else may go wrong when out on the property.

I work part time at hotel and in college, so they asked if I could do it.

I'd give them one proposal for the weekly lawn service and then I'd give them a separate proposal for the mulch and bed work. How many hours would you estimate it will take one experienced man to service the lawn? (count the time from when he pulls up in the truck to the time he drives away)

That is not your client's fault and you should not penalize your clients for your inefficiencies and problems by charging them for 3 hours of work if the job should be done in 2 hour (or whatever).
