Crew leader pay range

I have a guy who I have been training to become a crew leader and run a 2 man mowing crew. He had never done mowing before and has picked it up very good. He has gone out without me some when things have gotten busy.

So this guy will get paid from the time the trailer hooks up til the time it drops not including lunch. I also will give home a company phone so I can be in contact with him...he will take it home and I have told him he can use it but not abuse it. I will also pay overtime if necessary although if Howe get close on hours I usually show up to help.

He currently gets $10 per hour while I've been training him over the past few months. He has not mentioned wanting a raise. Curious what others are paying? I'm in North Carolina and do mostly residential properties.

If you don't plan on him running the crew every day. You could offer a bonus for quality assurance. Tell him that when hes in charge, if everything looks good your give him a bonus. The number is up to you though.

I just had a crew leader quit on me. He was making 14.25/ hr plus overtime and .50 cents a lawn commission. Cutting an average of 80-85 lawns a week. This wasn't good enough for him as he wanted more. He told me he could make more elsewhere.... So I said good luck. Careful what you give these guys.... In the end it's all about entitlement.... And they will always think they deserve more. Back on the grass for me I guess

I pay the college kid that does a crap job $12/hour. An important employee I wanted to stick around would be closer to 15-18.

Our crew leaders are 17-22 but we are in a completely different part of the country so I don't think it translates very well.

Lawn and Landscape runs a decent spread each year on average pay for certain positions and they break it down by region. Its probably on their website somewhere
