How many of you are irked when resi customers are HOME?

I know our business is a people/relationship business (at least for resi's it is). But I was out running apps today and had a notion to put the hammer down and get some things done. Lots to do. At least 1/2 of my stops had the homeowner come out the front door and want to shoot the bull with me. Its ok if they want to discuss the app or items related to their lawn/landscape, but so many went off on a tangent and were shooting BS at me that had nothing to do with anything green. I would say I probably got 2 less lawns done today cause of it.

Why do people feel the need to waste your time when you are doing your work?
I know, some are lonely, etc - but man it puts you behind the 8 ball sometimes.
Being a humble guy, I always listen to it too.......

I try to avoid some customers when I think they will be home. They can kill efficiency. Then there are those that expect you to be there for hours for a $50 job, when they realize the amount of time you are there they find a problem with something even though everything was great beforehand.

Just cut them off politely after you conduct any business. I always leave my machine running too.

The stink eye works well too. They usually get that before I ever get off the machine. lol

They will respect the fact that you're busy and need to keep moving, you just have to find the best way to convey that that works for you.

I have a few nemesis customers like that. I usually try to schedule them as my last stop of the day so I'm not totally freaking out when they come out to shoot the breeze.

Though sometimes sneaking in at 7:30am works too...lol

I had a tall glass of iced tea brought out to me today.

Oh wait, I think I was supposed to complain about something.
Sorry, wrong thread!

I shoot the bull with who ever wants to. We have a retention rate you would be amazed by with very little complants. Taking the time to speak to your customers will work wonders IMO

I don't mind when they come out with a ice cold beverage.

I have a few clients, all older folks, who like to come and dictate how I do the job.

Just today actually I was at one house and, granted it was work related, the guy came out to tell me how to trim the shrubs, at what height, the motion to use, so on and so forth. I understand telling me the height and shape they want but he's told me it about a dozen times since I scheduled it how he wants it. Same deal when I did his Pre-em.

Then there's the BSers..... Oh well, They all can't be perfect customers who pay their bill the day the get it and don't make a peep unless they have more work.

Yes I have a old man that does the same always finds something to point out about how he would of done it this way or done it that way... I think it's just them still wanting to feel like they can cut the grass.. And they love to talk guess some don't see many people that often so when they get a chance to talk there going to!
