I'd have to disagree that assbuilts are a waste of time. Somewhere down the line someone, maybe not you but someone will appreciate them. They don't have to be exact to scale drawings but a general idea where lines or things run.

Yes. Jim and I were just talking about that, down the road, the paper trail is invaluable.

I agree and disagree on the as-builts. I don't think they are extremely necessary, but they are appreciated. Especially on larger systems with spread out valves, quick couplers, drains, master valves, etc. But, I can't remember the last time I used or had even seen an as-built drawing. I don't have them for my house, showing where all the electrical or plumbing runs. We just deal with it when the time arises and something needs repairing or added onto.

I do a simple one for every install. Even something as simple as a blowout , one can look at and know best place to park and wheres the clock.

this is definitely true.

on my current project I'm on we have consulted pictures of utility trenches more than the as builts or mark outs. they have saved a lot of time and money.

that said, i should take more pictures.

My phone says 1,544 pics stored. It's only June.

Don't need more than a couple to describe this mess.
