Which step first?

I have aerated then seeded. Customer wants some compost thrown down.

So I think aerate first, then compost so some of the compost falls into the aerate holes thus mixing into the soil better then seed.

Or is it better to aerate, seed, then throw down some compost?

Nobody really knows. Do half one way and the other half-the second way. Let us know what happens.
And its a poor time to seed unless it is an irrigated site. And if crabgrass pre-emergent control was used, that would prevent the seed from germinating.
In a new lawn situation you would probably get crabgrass and thousands of summer weeds.
I suggest seed in the fall about mid-August--or when the daily high temps fall below 83. The soil temperature is high so the seed sprouts quick. Non-irrigated--wait till temps come down to about 78.

Or perhaps it is best to seed first, then aerate (some some of the soil cores fall on top of the seed), and THEN add compost. In any case the most important component is water. Quality seed is important too.

Naturally warm weather grasses--seed in summer when temps are above 85.
