Exmark 48" for $1800. Good deal?

Just sent this guy an email. Will probably go take a look at the mower.
http://stlouis.craigslist.org/grd/4522114517.html
Anything i should specifically look for? Here is the questions i asked:

1. Was this unit used commercially?
2. How old is the unit?
3. Was routine maintenance done? More specifically was the oil changed when needed?
4. Also are there any leaks around any seals on it?
5. Do you know how many hours are on it? If you do not know the exact hours then how much was it used?
6. Why are you selling the mower?

Hard to tell of a few things from the pics so i hope i can go take a look at it. What you all think? I could probably offer $1500 cash and he might take it if i decide to go this route. Not interested in a 1 wheel sulky, I'll go buy another 2 wheel. Thanks for the input in advacnce

i'd say it was used commercially and looks to be around an 05. looks to well used. you'll be able to tell much more hopefully when you look. i'd try to get it cheap as possible. you may need to replace the engine and hydros soon.

That's a deal for 1800. A steal for 1500. I'd jump.

I agree, as long as it starts right up & runs/cuts without any problems. Where I am people are asking that price for 48 belt driven Metros. I would try it first, and if you are not experienced with that model try to bring someone who is experienced with the Turf Tracer, if you can.

Emailed me back and said it has about 500hours on it from he could tell. From the serial # he said it was a 2001. I have a friend in the lawn business that runs a 52" tt. Maye i could ask him to come along, and maybe drive me over there because i don't know the area well. Said he has been a tech for 20 years with this type of stuff. Actually the address he gave me is a lawn equipment dealer but he is selling this personally. Makes me feel better that someone who knows this stuff went over it. The only days i have free this week is Wednesday evening and Thursday all day. It would be great if this deal is a good as it is coming out to be.

I would go as soon as possible. It might not be around by Thursday. I don't think someone working at a dealership would misrepresent anything. The only thing bad about the mower is that it is a little old. But 500 hours over 13 years is only 38 hours per year.

Yea, he was taking a guess based on condition he saw, i can't get there any sooner than Wednesday because of work. The only problem i have now is that since i am using my dads truck to pull trailer, i need to go get a full size one, and i need to have a down payment, so im not sure if money allows for both, but this is at least something to go take a look at. And age is something i will consider. Mainly the hydro pumps. My toro 36" belt wb is probably older if not close to the same, it has low hours and engine i fine, so engine im not concerned with as much as the hydros.

Well, i don't think i will go for this mower at the moment, i really need my own backpack and will most likely get a stihl 600 or redmax equivalent. And of course a blower rack for the trailer. Thanks for the input guys!
