Craigslist charging now.

I see now, in my area, that to place a "now hiring" ad, it will cost $25 per ad to run one time. I believe the cost varies per location...maybe still free in small markets. Has anyone else seen this?

Earlier this year I noticed the Raleigh section was charging. I use the eastern nc section and it was free. I'm located somewhat in both areas so i chose not to pay.

I still believe the for sale section is free but could be wrong.

The jobs area cost money. Typically you can put a ad in the gigs area for free.

Craigslist has always had pay sections. That's how they make their money.
What they do is select a few sections, in a few markets, and those become for-pay (jobs is their big money maker). Everything else is free.

It's better to post in the pay section, in the free section you ad gets bumped down in minutes in busy markets by people who spam their own ads.
wanted Landscape laborer
wanted landscaper
landscape laborer wanted
landscaper wanted
now hiring landscapers

and on and on and on… all the same guy/company.
in a busy market, 10 guys do that, you add is #37 down the list an hour from posting yours.

If you pay, each of those are $25, so you don't have dudes pulling that crap.

Yes, my ad was in a group of maybe 10 per day as opposed to 50+/day, like I had been doing when our area was free.

This is good advice. post a job in the Gigs section, and you'll be bombed with dozens of spam emails daily--everything from plants for sale to porn. Go with a paid ad.
