Spray gun vs Spray boom

Can anyone tell me the difference between using a spray gun and a boom?
The only thing I have used is gas powered backpack sprayer, and I use a 4 tip boom 20" spacing, and it is real eficient.

I prefer a boom rig to a gun rig. I have a spray boom wand that I use to apply weed controls.

The things I like about them are:

1. steady and even application.
2. low volume (.5 gal/1000 sq. ft)
3. very low drift and very controllable.
4. my arm does not get tired from waving the gun around.

I realize that most of this is personal preference, hope it helps.

The only thing with a boom that i can tell you is with a boom, when you turn to go the other direction, if you don't shutoff the sprayer you may over apply a small sectoin with the chemical and not enough on the other end of the boom. Well, that's how it is with all sharp turns. I saw a site where someone sprayed roundup on someones lawn for a testing purpose, and the inside turn of the sprayer, had really killed the grass, the outside turn however, was still mostly green. I hope this helps you.
